I've been thinking for years about a tool just like this and until now had never seen one. This is one of those things that you can do the job without, but after having one you wonder how you could have done without.

It's one of those things that you need once in a while but can't do without when you need it. Had a old front tire that had to be reused. Rim lock was opposite the tube valve so my usual technique did not work so this tool bailed me out.

If you change your own tires like I do, you should get one of these. The end fits inside the valve stem and doesn't interfere with the stem hole. A finger saver for sure.
